Closed slaughterhouses during the corona crisis have led to a pig jam that becomes visible at many farms. This has dramatic impact on keeping conditions and the prices for pork are sinking. In the past weeks, many pig farmers have called attention to the current situation and have participated in crisis meetings with governmental representatives to search for solutions. But there seems to be a structural problem: The need for a strong crisis management becomes clear now. But the competences to enforce this crisis management are often missing.
For many years, EQAsce is calling for more qualification of people who work in the agri and food sector in this field. >>More information about opportunities. At the same time, the EIP.NRW-Project GeTie shows that farmers committed to improve the situation and it supports the development of structures that will improve the conditions of the whole management in the value-added chains of pork. Within GeTie, EQAsce and its partners offer technical-organizational solutions. In the upcoming months, these concepts will be further developed and tested.
