The right training for all different tasks in the agri and food sector and intense effort for more animal welfare: Both topics have been discussed a lot during the International Green Week in Berlin that has ended now. According to the final note, other bigger topics have been quality and food security. With its current projects and daily work, EQAsce has been active in these fields for a long time and hits the core of the current debates.
As a side-event, a new device for piglet castration with the use of Isofluran has been presented at the permanent representation of the state of Lower Saxony in Berlin. There, EQAsce has stressed the fact that the right and adequate training with tools and especially new devices is very important. The support of modern technology – like virtual reality or augmented reality – is part of the Q-VIREA-project that started last summer. Until the end of 2020 the project-partners seek to have a digital training-tool that contains all alternatives to piglet-castration without anesthesia.
To get more animal welfare, EQAsce is still active in the public-private-partnership-initiative “Animal Welfare”. Another project deals with making ‘animal welfare’ visible as a product-characteristic which leads to a better and fairer price for pork. This project is called “GeTie” and EQAsce is lead-partner of it. In a few weeks, there will be an official kick-off for that. The slogan of the International Green Week this year was “you decide” and fits perfectly to this project: Consumer shall be aware of actions for animal welfare when buying a product and paying for it, but need to see and retrace the actions taken for animal welfare.
